Holmes Chapel Partnership helped to organise the first ever family Fun Run in Holmes Chapel, held on Sunday 11th May in the Dane Meadow.
This new one-off event was suggested by local resident Gill Bradfield to support fundraising efforts for our local groups and charities, as well as the Kenya trip organised by Holmes Chapel Comprehensive School, which many of our local teenagers are going on.
Under blue skies the Fun Run followed a scenic 2.5km route around the Dane Meadow area. From toddlers in pushchairs to grandchildren accompanied by grandparents, over 50 under 16s were registered to take part.
Participants were welcomed with refreshments being sold by The Shed Crew and a Zumba warm up from Chris Appleton from Dane Sound Radio. Along the route, local volunteers marked the route and offered encouragement, ensuring everyone crossed the finish line.
All participants received a medal made by The Shed Crew with all proceeds from the event going towards the Kenya trip, with participants encouraged to organise their own sponsorship for their chosen group or charity, reinforcing the village's commitment to supporting one another.
Following the event Gill commented; "I had a dream of running a local fun run for children to enjoy the outdoor space in the Dane Meadow. I would like to thank Holmes Chapel Partnership who took that dream and made it a reality, and especially the volunteers who marshalled the event. It was wonderful to see so many families and children taking part. The look of joy on the children’s faces having achieved the run made it all worthwhile.
Gill added: "This event was a great opportunity to support local charities and groups. One child raised over £75 towards the cricket club nets and even the firemen who took part had sponsorship. I do hope that there are many more stories like this and that the community has benefited from this event. I hope we can continue to build on it for next year.”*
To everyone who took part, whether you sprinted, jogged, walked or cheered, thank you for being part of a truly memorable day.
Special thanks go to Holmes Chapel Fire Station who not only ran the route in full fire gear but also provided first aid support; and all the volunteers who offered their time to help steward the event.
*We’ve pencilled in Sunday May 10th for next year’s Fun Run!
