Volunteer opportunities

Holmes Chapel is a great place to live and we would like to make it even better. We have outstanding schools, good connectivity to major employment hubs, and our village is located in the beautiful rural setting of East Cheshire.

But there's always room for improvement and we'd like to think that together we can make this happen. With more people coming to live in our village, we would like to cast our net wide and capture some of the talents we have living here. So if you have just moved into Holmes Chapel, or have lived here for years, we would like to meet you.

If you have a few hours to spare each month and would like to get involved in helping your local community and to meet new people, there are many ways in which you can be involved in volunteering for the village.

Holmes Chapel Partnership:

Come and work with us on a regular basis and help shape our latest projects. We meet once a month and you can decide how much or how little you get involved. If you have a project in mind that you think we could help with please get in touch! Email: info@hcpartnership.org.uk

Christmas Market:

At the beginning of December Holmes Chapel hosts its annual Christmas Market which includes market stalls, entertainment, fairground rides and food. But we can’t do it without the willing volunteers who help coordinate the event. In particular we need people on the day of the market to help set up, take down and take a turn at marshalling during the event. You can be on duty for just an hour or so - you don't have to commit to helping during the whole event. Please get in touch if you would like to lend a hand and be a part of this fantastic event: events@hcpartnership.org.uk

SpeedWatch:

The SpeedWatch Team meets on a regular basis (usually weekly or fortnightly) to check the speed of vehicles travelling along Macclesfield Road into the village. With more volunteers we can cover more roads! Full training and high-vis will be provided. We track the traffic in half hour or hourly sessions depending on volunteer availability. In any half hour there are usually around 8 vehicles who are breaking the speed limit so this is a really important and effective role in terms of road safety. We would like to get out there more often - we are told our presence definitely slows the traffic down! However there aren’t enough of us on the rota.

Please get in touch if you share our aims: email info@hcpartnership.org.uk for more information.

Friends of Dane Meadow:

If you love nature and being outdoors, the Friends of Dane Meadow meet once a month at 10am for an hour - usually on the second Tuesday. Jobs to be done are: raking paths and keeping them clear, looking after the new trees and cutting back vegetation. Just bring yourself along appropriately dressed (nettles, thistles and bare legs are not a happy combination!) and with some gardening gloves . If you would like more information about our 'green gym' session please email: hazel.sutcliffe@hcpartnership.org.uk

CommuniCARe:

CommuniCARe provides transport for local residents to health appointments, many of which are to the Holmes Chapel Health Centre, dentist and opticians. Almost every passenger questions how they would get to appointments without this service as public transport options are often not available.

As CommuniCARe becomes more widely used, more drivers will be very welcome! Could you consider volunteering to be a driver and part of this worthwhile service? Drivers can be very specific in what they wish to offer eg

- Willing to drive to local appointments only / within a 20 mile radius / further afield

- Time wise – one day a week / one day a fortnight / mornings only / not on a certain day etc

- Unable to offer a lift to any needing a walker / wheel chair

The majority of venues have parking arrangement with CommuniCARe therefore no parking charges and venues are very understanding of the service – barriers are raised without question! If you would like to find out more, Nigel Wait, the Chair of CommuniCARe will be delighted to speak to you. Please telephone the CommuniCARe number – 07856 469508, leave a message and your contact details for Nigel to be in touch.
