Ready, steady, go! A second successful Fun Run for Holmes Chapel

On Sunday 10th May the Holmes Chapel partnership helped to organise the second Family Fun Run in the Dane Meadow.

Despite a rainy weather forecast earlier in the week, the weather stayed dry and sunny for the scenic 2.5km route around the Dane Meadow area. From toddlers in pushchairs to grandchildren accompanied by grandparents, over 60 4-16 year olds registered to take part.

Participants were welcomed with refreshments in the form of coffee, squash and croissants organised by Holmes Chapel Methodist Church, who raised over £100 for Claire House Children’s Hospice. Music and an energetic Zumba warm up from Chris Appleton at Dane Sound Radio gave the event a festive atmosphere.

Along the route, local volunteers marked the route to cheer and offer encouragement, ensuring everyone crossed the finish line.

All participants received a medal made by Holmes Chapel Shed Crew, and a bag of Squashies donated by Swizzels, a treat that was much appreciated following the run. Participants were encouraged to organise sponsorship for their chosen group or charity, reinforcing the event’s commitment to supporting local causes.

Local gym JWC Health & Fitness got involved this year by volunteering to provide timings for each runner. Many participants commented they would need to come back again next year to see if they can beat their time!

The Family Fun Run was launched last year after local resident Gill Bradfield suggested the idea as a way to support fundraising efforts for local groups and charities.

Following the event Gill commented; “We all watched the weather with trepidation but we were very lucky that the sun shone. With it being the second year, and with even more people helping, the day seemed to run effortlessly.

Our family thoroughly enjoyed the event and I saw many others did too. Myself and the team from Holmes Chapel Partnership felt incredibly emotional seeing so many families take part and supporting the event. There was one lad with a bright red countenance who explained ‘I am definitely doing this again next year!’ It was wonderful to see the community come together once again and make the event such a memorable success.“

To everyone who took part, whether you sprinted, jogged, walked or cheered, thank you for being part of a truly memorable day.

Special thanks go to Holmes Chapel Fire Station who brought along their Fire Engine, ran the route in full fire gear and also provided first aid support.

We’ve pencilled in Sunday May 9th for next year’s Fun Run - see you there!

Thank you to JWC Health & Fitness for providing the run timings for the Fun Run. Here's the results by runner number. If you can't remember your number please get in touch. Please note: if you registered on the day to take part your time won't be available.
